Wreaths Across America December 10-11, 2010
Please join us as we venture to Washington D.C. to lay wreaths with "Wreaths Across America" on Saturday, December 11, 2010. Stay tuned for a trip that will tug on your heart, and give you the true meaning of Christmas.

Helmet Liners/Scarves For those with a gifted talent to crochet or knit, our troops are in need of helmet liners and scarves to be used for the harsh winter months. If you would like to make a helmet liner or scarf, please see the instructions below.
Reminder - all yarn MUST be 100% wool and in selected colors of brown/tan/oatmeal.
Other Ongoing Activities
Have sent a total of 1,500 boxes of donated Girl
Scout cookies to those deployed.
Have publicly collected donated items, packed and
sent them to those deployed.
Have become involved with “Marine Comfort Quilts”,
an organization based out of Missouri which makes quilts given
to those who have lost their children to war. www.marinecomfortquilts.us
Have supported Castle Point Veterans Hospital by
sending them any items that cannot be sent overseas, thus helping
to keep their food pantry stocked.
Have become involved with “Wounded
Warriors” based
out of Camp Lejeune, NC, by making contact with any arena, conference,
concert, raceway, etc. In June 2006 we had 11 Wounded Warriors
go to the Pocono 500 Raceway in Long Pond, PA.
Scholarship Program
The organization provides three educational scholarships annually, in memory of our Fallen Heroes, to help those recently honorably discharged from the service to resume their place in civilian society. Application Form
The Four Scholarships
LCPL Robert Mininger Scholarship: a fallen Marine,
who was KIA during “Operation Iraqi Freedom”.
Fallen Hero Scholarship: in
honor of all of our servicemen
who have given the ultimate
sacrifice.
Semper Fi Parents Scholarship: in honor of any
serviceman/woman who has honored their country by the
giving of themselves.
Wounded Warrior Special Assistance Scholarship: in
honor of those that have been
wounded in combat, and continue to pursue their dreams,
despite any traumatic disability.
Scholarship applicants should provide a copy of their discharge form, DD214, or those returning to or being discharged from National Guard or Reserve duty should submit a letter on letterhead from their commander verifying their status
Scholarship applicants must be enrolled in a recognized college or university or trade school which awards their candidates with a certificate of completion diploma for an associate or bachelor degree or trade .
Scholarship applicants must write an essay which discusses both the strengths andweaknesses of having served in the military and the impact of this service on their morals and values
The essay should be at least 500 to 750 words in length and not to exceed 1000 words
The scholarship applicants must sign a disclaimer which allows Semper Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley, NY to archive and have unlimited use the text/content of their essays in future notices and publications
Scholarship Awards
Four educational scholarships will be awarded annually.
Awards will be $1000.00 and will be paid directly to the applicant’s school of enrollment upon receipt of a copy of the applicant’s acceptance letter
Awards will be paid prior to the onset of classes.
Successful recipients will be invited to attend and be recognized at the Semper Fi Parents annual golf tournament or to another presentation event.
Judging Applicant Essays
Each essay submitted will be reviewed by three Semper Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley members in good standing selected by the majority of members present at the June monthly meeting. Members reviewing the applicants can not be related to any of the applicants or be an officer of SFPHV. The name of the applicant will not be known to the reviewer
Each essay will be assessed for the following:
Strength element of service
Weakness element of service
How identified strengths and weaknesses of military service will impact or have impacted on their goals for civilian life
December, 2009: Operation Santa 2009 was a spectacular success. We received a multitude of thank-you's from our troops.
October 14, 2007: Educational Day. Semper Fi Parents hosted the Wounded Warriors to the Hudson Valley. During their stay the Warriors were treated to a day in New York which was inclusive for meeting the NFC Giant’s Football Team, having a wonderful lunch at Divino Restaurante, and visiting “Ground Zero” up close.
Following their participation in our educational day, the Warriors went to the “Purple Heart Hall of Honor” where they submitted their information for induction. We say thank you to these fine heroes, may life take you where your dreams desire.
May 21, 2007: Support the Troops Golf Tournament
We say thank you to those who helped make our 2007 Tournament such a success.
May 2006: Our Inaugural Support the Troops Golf
Tournament held at Casperkill Country Club in Poughkeepsie, New York. 100 golfers participated.
November 2005: Completed Operation
Santa. Adopted 3 platoons, sent 140 holiday filled stockings, “goodie boxes” and an 8 foot chess set to those deployed.
October 2005: Our first educational Fall Get-Together for parents was held. Fifty-five attendees came from New York, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut.
